Note: The notification states that the division-wise vacancy
position will be available on the GDS Online Engagement Portal.
Educational Qualification
Candidates must have passed the Secondary School Examination (10th
Standard) with passing marks in Mathematics and English
from a recognized Board of School Education by the Government of
India / State Governments / Union Territories in India.
Candidates having equivalent qualification from any other board are
not eligible to apply for GDS engagement.
The applicant should have studied the prescribed local language
at least up to 10th Standard from a recognized board.

GDS Job Profile
1. Branch Postmaster (BPM)
- Day-to-day postal operations of the Branch Post Office.
- Operations related to India Post Payments Bank (IPPB).
- Marketing and promotion of Departmental products and services.
- Overall responsibility for smooth functioning of single-handed Branch Offices.
- Mail conveyance and mail delivery duties as applicable.
- BPM selected candidates have to arrange accommodation for the Branch Post Office at their own cost.
- BPM is required to reside in the post village where the Branch Office is functioning.
2. Assistant Branch Postmaster (ABPM)
- Sale of stamps and stationery.
- Conveyance and delivery of mail at doorstep.
- Exchange of mail with the Account Office.
- IPPB deposits, payments and other transactions.
- Assist BPM in postal operations.
- Marketing and promotion of postal products and services.
- ABPM may perform combined BPM duties when required.
- ABPM is required to reside within the delivery jurisdiction of the concerned Post Office.
3. Dak Sevak
- Sale of stamps and stationery.
- Conveyance and delivery of mail.
- IPPB deposits, payments and other transactions.
- Handling of mail, mail bags and parcels.
- Delivery of mail and parcels.
- Assistance in the smooth functioning of Departmental Post Offices.
- Other duties assigned by the competent authorities.
India Post GDS Salary / TRCA

GDS employees are paid Time Related Continuity Allowance (TRCA), which
carries an annual increase of 3% subject to applicable conditions.
Dearness Allowance and other applicable allowances/social security
benefits are provided as per GDS Rules.
Working Hours & Service Conditions
- GDS are required to work a minimum of 4 hours and maximum of 5 hours a day.
- GDS cannot be retained as Sevak beyond 65 years of age.
- GDS are not regular Central Government employees.
- GDS service conditions are governed by the GDS (Conduct and Engagement) Rules, 2020.
- GDS are required to have another source of income besides Government allowances for adequate livelihood.
Reservation Details
Reservation benefits are applicable to eligible candidates belonging
to SC / ST / OBC / PwBD / EWS categories as per the rules and
conditions prescribed by the Department of Posts.
EWS candidates are entitled to 10% reservation subject to the
applicable conditions. There is no upper age relaxation for EWS candidates.
Candidates claiming reservation or age relaxation must possess the
prescribed valid certificate and produce it during document verification.
Selection Process
Selection will be based on a system-generated merit list.
Merit will be prepared on the basis of marks obtained / conversion of
grades or points in the Secondary School Examination (10th Standard).
Marks are aggregated to percentage with accuracy up to 4 decimal places.
There is no written examination mentioned in this GDS engagement
notification. Shortlisting is based on the prescribed 10th standard merit
calculation.
GDS Merit List Calculation
- Marks mentioned in the 10th marksheet will be considered where applicable.
- If only grades are available, grades are converted using the prescribed multiplication factor of 9.5.
- CGPA, where applicable, is converted by multiplying CGPA by 9.5.
- The system will carry out the prescribed conversion before preparation of merit.
- Applications submitted with incomplete or incorrect information may be rejected.
- Blurred or illegible photograph/signature can lead to rejection.
Tie Breaking Criteria
In case of a tie between applicants, the Department has prescribed a
priority order based on Date of Birth (older age first) followed
by the prescribed category and gender priorities. The Department may
introduce additional criteria in case of a tie, and its decision shall
be final.
Document Verification
Shortlisted candidates will be informed through SMS and Email and will
have to appear before the designated authority for physical verification
of original documents.
Documents may include:
- 10th / Matriculation Marksheet
- Identity Proof
- Caste Certificate, if applicable
- PwBD Certificate, if applicable
- EWS Certificate, if applicable
- Transgender Certificate, if applicable
- Date of Birth Proof
- Medical Certificate

GDS Accommodation Requirement
Candidates selected as BPM are required to arrange accommodation
for running the Branch Post Office at their own cost after selection
and before engagement.
The selected BPM is required to reside in the post village where the
Branch Office is functioning. ABPM and Dak Sevaks are required to reside
within the prescribed delivery jurisdiction of the concerned Post Office.

- Complete the One-Time Registration (OTR).
- Verify your active mobile number and email ID through OTP.
- Enter personal details exactly as mentioned in the 10th marksheet.
- Enter your 10th board, passing year and marks.
- Select the applicable Postal Circle / Division and available post preferences.
- Upload your recent photograph and signature as prescribed.
- Preview the application carefully before final submission.
- Pay the ₹100 application fee if applicable.
- Submit the application form and keep the registration/application details safe.
Important: Only one registration is permitted per candidate.
Multiple or duplicate registrations/applications are strictly prohibited.
